The dot SE country-specific domain extension was created in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were secured. Persons were allowed to reserve only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. only Swedish persons, businesses and organizations were able to order a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.

Currently, anyone can order a .SE domain name, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish online community even if you do not have a local presence.
